[Ulisse], "Calypso" by Luigi Dallapiccola. Reproduced by permission of Anna Dallapiccola. About this image
|| About the Collection ||
The output of Luigi Dallapiccola (1904-1975) encompassed dramatic works (opera and ballet) as well as choral, solo vocal and instrumental compositions. Margaret (Peggie) Dwight is an American artist who corresponded with Dallapiccola from 1951 until his death in 1975. The bulk of this collection represents their correspondence, more than 300 letters (written mostly in French). The writings include 200 pages of "Recollections" written by Dwight chronicling their 24-year friendship. In addition to articles and programs, the collection includes a few of Dallapiccola's holograph manuscripts (most notably his opera “Ulysses” and excerpts or sketches of his works) and printed editions of full scores of “Requiescant” and “Sex Carmina Alcaei.”
