Victor Herbert (1859-1924), cellist, co-founder of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), conductor and composer is best known as the composer of light operas such as “Babes in Toyland,” “The Red Mill” and “Naughty Marietta.” This collection encompasses a core collection of show music (original Herbert scores), non-show music (original Herbert scores/parts), arrangements by Herbert, music of others, miscellaneous music by Herbert, collections of Herbert’s music, the Victor Herbert Orchestra encore part books, and various non-music materials (1885-1951). Recordings associated with this collection are in the MBRS/Recorded Sound Collections. Victor Herbert materials may also be found in the Tams Witmark Collections in the Music Division.
