[Detail] The sheet music cover of Gavotte by Helen Hopekirk. New York: Schirmer, G., 1884. About this image
|| About the Collection ||
This collection mostly contains the music manuscripts of the Scots-American composer and pianist Helen Hopekirk (1856-1945). Contemporary accounts (many contained in the collection’s scrapbooks) show Hopekirk was considered one of the great concert pianists of her generation. She taught at the New England Conservatory in Boston, and in 1900 she premiered her “Piano Concerto in D” with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Her recitals often included her own compositions, which demonstrated a strong influence from her native Celtic folk music.
