|| About the Collection ||
American sheet music, mostly songs, amassed by dentist Harry Lepman (1904-1970). Dating from the 1880s to the end of World War II, the music was part of a larger collection of American political memorabilia assembled during Dr. Lepmanās lifetime; non-music items were donated to the Smithsonian. Most songs in the collection were composed to rally support for military efforts in the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II; however some titles represent war protests. Many items in the collection boast colorful cover art.
