Portrait of Charles Martin Loeffler About this image
|| About the Collection ||
Charles Martin Loeffler (1861-1935) was a German-American violinist and composer. Until 1903, when he began to concentrate solely on composing, Loeffler was a violinist with major European and American (New York and Boston) orchestras. Throughout his career he became closely associated with Gabriel Fauré and many other important composers and performers of the time. While he bequeathed most of his manuscripts, correspondence and other possessions to the Paris Conservatory and the Académie Français, this collection presents an important photographic record of musical life in early 20th-century Europe and America.
