|| About the Collection ||
Makanda Ken McIntyre (1931-2001) was a world-renowned multi-instrumentalist, composer, orchestrator and educator. He was known principally for leading his own ensembles, but also taught extensively in the New York City schools, believing strongly in the unlimited potential of each student. In 1983 he founded the Contemporary African American Organization (CAAMO) to promote free expression and continuing education in music and the performing arts with the African Tradition. In addition to teaching and performing, Makanda composed and arranged songs and scores for film and TV specials.
