McKim Collection

|| About the Collection ||

Leonora Jackson McKim (1880-1969) was one of the first female concert violinists and was widely acclaimed. She performed for royalty in Britain, Germany, and Sweden and was decorated by Queen Victoria. She was a soloist with leading European and American orchestras, including the London Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony. In the 1900-1901 season she gave 160 concerts throughout the United States. The papers in the collection relate to her career as a concert violinist and her later life after her retirement and marriage. The collection includes the (mostly) printed music used by Leonora Jackson McKim in her performances. The McKim Fund material consists chiefly of scores for compositions commissioned by the fund.
