|| About the Collection ||
Scholar and bassoonist Frank Roberts Cole apparently visited the great libraries of Germany and Austria in the 1960s in conjunction with a research project for identifying 18th-century bassoon music (which usually involved other woodwind instruments as well). Subsequent to his death in an automobile accident in Europe during this research trip, Cole’s parents donated the photographic prints of the scores and/or parts which compose this collection to the Library of Congress Music Division.
