The popular first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, Mark “Big Mac” McGwire has been an explosive force in the major leagues since he began his career in 1986. In 1998, he and Chicago Cubs right fielder Sammy Sosa captured the hearts of baseball fans everywhere as each sought to break Roger Maris’ long-standing record for home runs in a single season. “Big Mac” founded the Mark McGwire Foundation for Children to aid agencies working with victims of child abuse.
