| Publication Pattern Discussion
Group Agenda 1. Welcome and introductions 2. Report on the Publication Patterns Initiative (Jean Hirons) 3. Discussion on electronic journals and holdings 4.
Future of the discussion group Questions for the electronic journals discussion: Are libraries creating holdings records for electronic journals? If so, what information is recorded in those records? Are summary holdings sufficient? Is there a need for checking in and claiming electronic journals? What are the implications from both technical services and public services points of view? Some integrated library systems have developed mechanisms whereby electronic journals can check themselves in. For example, the III E-Checkin function allows a publisher or vendor to send an xml file containing an electronic packing slip to process and check-in new issues automatically. If your library has used such a system, can you share your experience with us? If your library uses one of the serials management services such as Serials Solutions or TDNet, what kind of holdings information do you have? In light of the CONSER decision to use a single record for ejournals in aggregations, what impact will this have on the information that will be included in your holdings record? What other information elements would you like to see included in holdings records? [What about the fixed fields? And needs for gathering statistics and running reports?] |
