John D. Byrum (Library of Congress) Summit Steering Committee
John D. Byrum is currently chief of the Regional and Cooperative
Cataloging Division at the Library of Congress where he has been
employed since 1974. Prior to his current position, he served as
chief of the Descriptive Cataloging Division and for several years
he also served concurrently as chief of LC's Subject Cataloging
Division. He served as principal organizer for the Library of Congress
Bicentennial Conference on Bibliographic Control for the New Millennium,
Nov. 2000 and continues as member of the team appointed to implement
the resulting action plan. He is chair of the MARC Harmonization
Coordinating Committee and the Foreign MARC Coalition. He serves
as Secretariat to the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, as chair
of the Bibliographic Enrichments Advisory Team, and as chair of
the LC Portals Applications Issues Group. He has received several
awards from the Library, including awards for Special Achievement,
for Meritorious Service, and for Superior Service.
Byrum has been active in the American Library Associations various cataloging
committees, serving as the chair of the group which coordinated ALA's participation
in the creation of AACR2. He has been active in IFLA for many years, formerly
as member of and currently as consultant to the Standing Committees of the
Sections on Cataloguing and Section on Bibliography. He was chair of the Working
Groups which produced ISBD(CF) and ISBD(ER). He is currently head of the ISBD
Review Group. He has authored numerous articles on a range of cataloguing topics.
Cornelia Owens Goode (Library of Congress) Logistical Coordination
Cornelia Owens Goode, Program Specialist, Regional and Cooperative
Cataloging Division, is serving as the Summit Logistical Coordinator.
Ms. Goode is responsible for lodging accommodations, administrative
and logistical support.
Les Hawkins, CONSER Coordinator, Summit Steering Committee
Les Hawkins, CONSER Coordinator has worked at the Library of Congress
since 1982. From 1988 until 2001 he was a cataloger at the National
Serials Data Program (NSDP), specializing in e-serials. From 2001
to 2003 he was CONSER Specialist, working with CONSER documentation,
Web development, and other program initiatives. He is co-author
with Steve Shadle of the SCCTP Electronic Serials Cataloging Workshop
and has written about cataloging e-serials in several library journals
and newsletters.
Jean Hirons, Conference Coordinator, Summit Steering Committee
Jean Hirons, the former CONSER Coordinator from 1993-2003, is
serving as a consultant and coordinator of the Summit. During Jean's
twenty years at the Library of Congress she created the CONSER
Editing Guide and CONSER Cataloging Manual, as well as the Serials
Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP). Her tenure as
CONSER Coordinator coincided with the rise of the electronic journal
and she championed many of the CONSER initiatives developed during
that time, such as the "CONSER single record approach" and
the "aggregator-neutral record." Jean received the Bowker-Ulrich's
Serials Librarianship Award in 1996 for her development of CONSER
documentation, and the Margaret Mann citation in 2002 for her work
in the revision of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and the
development on SCCTP. She retired in June 2003 to pursue pastel
painting.

Steve Shadle (University of Washington) Summit Steering
Committee
Steve Shadle has been a Serials Cataloger at the University of
Washington Libraries since 1995. Prior to that, he was an ISSN
Cataloger at the National Serials Data Program of the Library of
Congress, where Les Hawkins was his cataloging trainer (trained
by the best ;-). Steve has been heavily involved in the Serials
Cooperative Cataloging Training Program (SCCTP) serving as trainer,
mentor, advisory board member and (with Les Hawkins) co-authoring
the Electronic Serials Cataloging Workshop. Steve has authored
several articles on serials and electronic resource cataloging
and has contributed to the work of e-serial CONSER groups, including
those that developed the single-record and aggregator-neutral cataloging
practices.
Sally Sinn (National Agricultural Library) Summit
Steering Committee
Sally Sinn is Associate Director for Technical Services at the
National Agricultural Library (NAL) -a CONSER member library since
1984. Prior to joining NAL in 1995, Ms. Sinn was associated with
the CONSER program as a member of the technical services and cataloging
staff of the National Library of Medicine. From 1998 - 1999 she
served as the CONSER representative to the Policy Committee of
the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and served as chair
of the PCC for the 1999/2000 term. Most recently, she chaired the
CONSER Task Force on Publication Patterns and Holdings from 2000-2002.
Robert Wolven (Columbia University) Summit Steering Committee
Robert Wolven is Director of Library Systems and Bibliographic
Control at Columbia University Libraries. He is currently Chair
Emeritus of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Committee
and Chair-Elect of the ALCTS Heads of Technical Services in Large
Research Libraries. Long active nationally in developments related
to metadata and cataloging, he has served on the Digital Library
Federation's Metadata Working Group, the DLF/OCLC Registry of Digital
Masters initiative, and the RLG Database Advisory Group. He currently
serves on the Advisory Board for the Computational Linguistics
for Image Metadata Building (CLiMB) Project and the RLG Cultural
Materials Initiative's Content Advisory Group.
