Collection Policy Statement Index
(Class S)
General
The Library of Congress attempts to acquire for its permanent collections books, serials, films, maps, pictorial materials, and other library materials which contribute to a knowledge of the socio-cultural, economic, political, historical, geographical, and legal aspects of agriculture on a world-wide basis; and official organs of agricultural organizations at the regional, national, and international level. See also Joint Collections Development Statement on Biotechnology.
II. Popular works
Popular works addressed to the layman in selected subjects, e.g., organic gardening, parks and public reservations, horses, pets, sport fishing, hunting, riding, and camping, are generally acquired only in U.S. editions.2
III. General agricultural topics
The Library maintains a broad selection of works relating to land tenure, forestry, fisheries, and the conservation of natural resources.
IV. Government Documents
Except for United States Government documents received in microform, the Library does not acquire works relating solely to agricultural methods, medicine, production, and farm management, addressed primarily to the farmer, veterinarian, or rancher, or works on the study and teaching of agriculture. Compare also Government Publications - U.S. (Series C).
V. Copyright
English-language copyright deposits in the subjects listed in Sections I, II and III above are selected for the Library's collections. All other publications including serials, relating to technical agriculture, will be made available to the National Agricultural Library.
VI. Exceptions
None of the above precludes the acquisition of selected materials for temporary use.
