Cairo acquires materials in all formats through a network of bibliographic representatives and vendors, several publishers and book dealers, exchange partners, and extensive travel throughout the region by staff to cover the 20 countries. For LC: 51,997 pieces for FY 2007; 6,165 were monographs 45,832 were serials; 375 were maps or other non-print formats. For the 45 MECAP participants: 42,574 pieces, of which 34,838 were serial or newspaper issues, 7,515 were monographs, 87 maps, and 134 other formats.
Cairo catalogs in 6 languages of the region: Arabic, Kurdish, Armenian, Turkish, English and French. Provides bibliographic records at various levels including: full (CORE) level, IBC, MLC, and Whole Book cataloging for Islamic materials. Cairo creates MARC records in RLIN for Arabic monographs and OCLC for serials and LC's Voyager ILS for roman alphabet records, non-book formats and authority records. 279 whole book records, 2,811 core level, 548 MLC, and 170 non-book records were created as well as 548 added volume records. 437 new serial title records were created in OCLC. 1,934 authority records were created during FY 2007.
Cairo collated and prepared 54 newspaper titles for microfilming plus 136 serial titles to be microfiched at the Library's office in New Delhi (FY 2007).
Retrospective acquisitions, research and acquisition on special topics. Excellent usage of E-business in sending and receiving the orders through the MECAP Order Manipulation System (MOM system) created by the Cairo office.
