Mission of the Bangkok Suboffice
The Bangkok suboffice of the Library of Congress Office, Jakarta, Indonesia, is responsible for the acquisition of material from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The Bangkok suboffice collects more than 750 serials and 1500 monographs annually. The suboffice acquires material on Thai, Cambodian, Lao, and Vietnamese culture, history, and civilization, as well as material that documents contributions in the areas of social welfare, planning, development, economics, government, politics, sociology, history, education, military science, etc. Material is acquired in Thai, Lao, Khmer, Vietnamese, and Burmese.
When the material is received a preliminary bibliographic record is made and the material is forwarded to the Jakarta office and other overseas offices to be cataloged, bound, and microformatted as necessary, before it is distributed to the Library of Congress and participants in the Cooperative Acquisitions Program for Southeast Asia (CAP-SEA).
The Bangkok suboffice is located in the U.S. Embassy compound in central Bangkok.
