BERT BOLIN

Dr. Bolin is professor of meteorology at the University of Stockholm and Director of the International Meteorological Institute (1961-91). He was born in Sweden on May 15, 1925. He was educated at the University of Uppsala (B.S. 1946) and the University of Stockholm (M.S. 1949, Ph.D. 1956). He has served as member of advisory board to the Swedish Government (1983-86), and Scientific Advisor to the Swedish Prime Minister (1986-91). He has published about 160 scientific papers and books in the fields of dynamic meteorology, numerical weather forecasting, global carbon cycle, and the role of aerosols and green house gases for the climate of the earth. He also served as Chairman of the Global Atmospheric Research Program (1967-71); and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (1988-97). Dr. Bolin is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the OMI prize; Tyler Prize (University of Southern California); Blue Planet Prize; The Royal Medal Size 12, and the Global Environmental Leadership Award.
