JOHN
T. NOONAN
John T. Noonan's work has been principally in the intellectual history
of moral ideas in the West, including studies of abortion, bribery, contraception,
divorce, euthanasia, family law, legal ethics, religious freedom, and
usury. His most recent book is The Lustre of Our Country (1998).
He has been the Holmes Lecturer at Harvard Law School, the Dewey Memorial
Lecturer at Minnesota University and the Messenger Lecturer at Cornell
University. He was the Aquinas Medalist of the American Catholic Philosophical
Association (1995). For ten years he was the editor of the American
Journal of Jurisprudence. He has been since 1986 a judge of the United
States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
