Mohamed Mekkawi has served as director of Howard University Libraries since 1994, and he has served in various positions in the university's library system since 1972. Author or editor of more than 30 publications, he has an M.A. (cum laude) in sociology/demography from Georgetown University, an MLS from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.A. in political science from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, a postgraduate diploma in economic and social development planning from the Institute for Planning and Development in Paris, and a baccalaureate degree from the University of Paris.
