James M. Reilly holds a Master's Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is the Director of the Image Permanence Institute (IPI) at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. IPI is an academic Research Laboratory with a staff of 12 persons devoted to preservation technology and image preservation. IPI is co-sponsored by the Society for Imaging Science and Technology. Mr. Reilly is the author of numerous technical articles on photograph and film preservation. He has written two books, including Care and Identification of 19th-Century Photographic Prints, published in 1986. More recently, Mr. Reilly has worked in the areas of environmental assessment and institutional preservation management. He has been retained as a consultant by numerous museums, libraries, and archives.
