Thanks to the generosity of Ed Cox, the Library of Congress has
established an endowment to support the acquisition of important,
historically significant items for the national collection. This
endowment gives the Library, for the first time in its history,
the means to acquire a broad range of materials that properly
belong in the national library of the United States but that might
otherwise be broken up or left in the hands of private individuals
or institutions with more limited facilities and public access.
The American Legacy Endowment will help insure that
special historic materials, especially those that tell the story
of America’s past, are drawn into the nation’s library where they
will be protected, preserved, and made broadly available for study,
both on site in the Library’s reading rooms and on-line through
the National Digital Library.
