John
Kluge's
generosity
and
leadership
of
the
Madison
Council
is
helping
to
ensure
that
the
Librarian
of
Congress's
vision
of
a
captivating,
highly
visible
Bicentennial
Program
becomes
a
reality.
Mr.
Kluge
became
the
catalyst
for
the
Bicentennial
fund-raising
effort
by
stepping
forward
in
1996
to
make
the
first
gift
and
challenging
other
Madison
Council
members
to
provide
matching
funds.
This
successful
effort
provided
funds
for
a
host
of
Bicentennial
activities
celebrating
the
richness
and
diversity
of
the
Library's
collections
after
200
years
of
sustained
patronage
by
the
U.S.
Congress
and
the
American
people.
His
leadership
by
example
has
encouraged
many
other
Members
to
step
forward
with
Gifts
to
the
Nation
and
gifts
of
general
support
for
this
once-in-a-lifetime
celebration.
