Storyteller Biography

Carmen Deedy

Cuban-American stories and music from the Deep South

The Cuban-American storyteller Carmen Deedy is known both as the teller of funny and bittersweet immigrant tales, as well as the author of six children's books. Deedy has appeared at a number of locations including the Kennedy Center and New Victory Theater on Broadway. She was Georgia's Children's Author of the Year in 1993 and won a Parent's Choice Gold Award for her audio. Deedy appears regularly on National Public Radio and teaches at the Disney Institute in Orlando.
