Author Biography

Gary Soto

Gary Soto

Poet, essayist, fiction writer and film producer Gary Soto bases his many books and characters on his boyhood experiences in Fresno, California. Mr. Soto's books for adults and young people have won him many honors and awards, including in 1999 the Literature Award from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the Author-Illustrator Civil Rights Award from the National Education Association and the PEN Center West Book Award. His most recent book is Poetry Lover (University of New Mexico Press, 2001).
