Author Biography

Brian Pinkney

Brian Pinkney

When Brian Pinkney was young, he often watched his father, Jerry Pinkney, at work in his studio and then drew and painted in his own "studio" - a closet fixed up with the art supplies that his father no longer used. Now Brian Pinkney is illustrator of more than two dozen children's books, writer-illustrator of three books, and winner of two Caldecott Honor Awards and a Coretta Scott King Illustrators Award. He has collaborated with his wife, children's book author Andrea Davis Pinkney, on several titles including Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra which won the 1999 Caldecott Honor Award and the 1999 Coretta Scott King Honor Award.
