Jerry Pinkney

Jerry Pinkney

Jerry Pinkney, who took an interest in drawing at an early age, has been illustrating children's books since 1964. He is the recipient of Caldecott Honor Medals for Mirandy and Brother Wind by Patricia McKissack (Knopf) in 1989, for The Talking Eggs by Robert D. San Souci (Dial) in 1990, and for John Henry by Julius Lester (Dial) in 1995. He has also won the Coretta Scott King Award three times with the most recent in 2002 for Goin' Someplace Special by Patricia McKissack (Atheneum, 2001). In addition to work on children's books, Jerry Pinkney has had over 20 one-man retrospective shows at major U.S. venues. His latest books are Nightingale (Penguin Putnam, 2002) and Noah's Ark (SeaStar Books, 2002).
