Author Biography

James McPherson

James McPherson

Distinguished historian James McPherson has authored more than a dozen books 100 major articles about the Civil War and the Civil War era. His book, Battle Cry of Freedom, the Civil War Era (1988), won the Pulitzer Prize and has since sold more than 600,000 copies. A professor at Princeton University, Mr. McPherson was the 2000 Jefferson Lecturer in Humanities. His newest books are Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam 1862 (Oxford Univ. Press, Sept. 2002) and Fields of Fury: The American Civil War (Simon & Schuster (2002), a children's book.
