Author Biography

Allen Say

Allen Say

Allen Say came from Yokohama, Japan to the United States when he was 16 years old. He spent most of his professional life as a highly successful commercial photographer and he wrote and illustrated children's books on a part-time basis. In 1987, while illustrating The Boy of the Three Year Nap (a Caldecott Honor book), he decided to write and illustrate children's books full time. Mr. Say is the winner of the 1994 Caldecott Medal for Grandfather's Journey and his most recent book is Home of the Brave (Houghton Mifflin, 2002). He resides in Portland, Oregon.
