Novelist and short story writer Gish Jen has the distinction of having one of her short stories, “Birthmates” (published in Ploughshares in 1995), selected for Best American Short Stories of the Century, alongside stories by Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner. Her stories have been published in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times, as well as in various anthologies. She is also the author of several novels, including The Love Wife (Knopf, 2004). Her honors include the Lannan Award for Fiction and the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She lives in Massachusetts.
