Laura Numeroff attended Pratt Institute intending to become a fashion designer. She instead took a class on writing and illustrating books for children and is now the author of more than 25 books including the popular best-selling If You Give a____ series. Favorites of children as well as parents and teachers, the series puts children in semi-parental roles with unexpected and demanding animal guests. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (1985) was the first in the series. The most recent book in the series is If You Give a Pig a Party (HarperCollins, 2005). Recipient of a Parents Choice Award, Ms. Numeroff lives in California.
