Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) became the first woman elected to the U. S. Senate from the state of Texas. She is a graduate of the University of Texas and the University of Texas Law School and was twice elected to the Texas House of Representatives. She has also received numerous awards and recognition. Considered to be a heroine and pioneer in her own right, Sen. Hutchison is the author of American Heroines: The Spirited Women Who Shaped Our Country (2004. HarperTrade, 2006).
