Annie Proulx is the 2018 recipient of the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction. Her novel “The Shipping News” won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award and was adapted into a major motion picture. Her short story “Brokeback Mountain” (from the story collection “Close Range: Wyoming Stories”) became an Academy Award-winning film directed by Ang Lee. Her first novel, “Postcards,” made her the first woman to win the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. Proulx is a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow. Her recent novel is “Barkskins” (Scribner). Proulx will accept the award from the Library on the Fiction stage.
