National Book Festival

Author and illustrator Brian Lies has always had a passion for art. After moving to Boston to study drawing and painting at the Boston Museum School, he steadily made his way into a career in illustration. He has illustrated more than 25 books, six of which he has both written and illustrated, including the award-winning and best-selling titles “Bats at the Beach,” “Bats at the Library” and “Bats at the Ballgame.” In his latest addition to the “Bats” series, “Bats in the Band” (Houghton Mifflin), the bats are back to explore new territory, this time with a little night music. Lies’s books feature spotlit images and rhythmic texts.
