Christopher Paul Curtis worked on the assembly line at a Fisher Body plant while attending the University of Michigan, where he began to write essays and fiction. Now he is the best-selling author of "Bud, Not Buddy," a winner of the Newbery Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award, and "The Watsons Go to Birmingham -- 1963," which was also singled out for many awards including a Newbery Honor and a Coretta Scott King Honor. His new book is "Bucking the Sarge" (Random House, 2004). He and his family live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
