Edmund S. Morgan, Sterling Professor of History Emeritus at Yale University and one of America's leading historians, has written more than a dozen books about early American history. He has won many awards, including the Bancroft Prize, the Francis Parkman Prize, the Albert J. Beveridge Award and the 2002 National Humanities Medal. His most recent book is "Benjamin Franklin" (Yale University Press, 2002). He lives in New Haven, Ct. Due to unforseen circumstances, Edmund S. Morgan has been forced to cancel his much-anticipated trip to Washington, D.C. to take part in the 2003 National Book Festival. Professor Morgan regrets he is unable to take part in this wonderful and important event.
