Kadir Nelson is an award-winning author and illustrator. His works have been featured multiple times on the cover of The New Yorker magazine, and his paintings are in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Muskegon Museum of Art, The National Baseball Hall of Fame, the International Olympic Committee and the U.S. House of Representatives. He has also created album artwork, such as the cover for Drake’s “Nothing Was the Same,” and stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. Nelson is the author and illustrator of the best-selling books “We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball”—winner of the Coretta Scott King Award for authors and the Sibert Medal—and “Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans.” His latest book is “Blue Sky White Stars” (Dial), a tribute to the beauty of the American flag, completed in conjunction with author Sarvinder Naberhaus.
