She has written novels, short stories, essays, articles, taught English literature, and lectured at various colleges, universities, and other institutions. Her novel, "Out of Eden" (1996) won the Western Heritage Award, and her most recent novel is "Confessions of a Bigamist" (Shaye Areheart Books/Crown, 2004). She and her husband, PBS anchor and writer Jim Lehrer, live in Washington, D.C.
