Marilynne Robinson’s first novel, “Housekeeping,” was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; in 2005 she won the prize for her second novel, “Gilead,” which has received universal praise. Robinson has also received the 2012 National Humanities Medal and published numerous essays, book reviews and nonfiction books. She has been writer-in-residence or visiting professor at many universities, including the University of Kent, Amherst and the University of Massachusetts. Robinson currently teaches at the University of Iowa Writers Workshop. Her latest book, “Lila” (Farrar, Straus & Giroux), revisits the town of Gilead with Lila and describes her struggles to reconcile the hardships of her childhood with her Christian minister husband’s worldview, which paradoxically judges those she loves.
