Patrick Ness was born at Fort Belvoir, Va., but now lives in London. He has never wanted to be anything but a writer. He writes about 1,000 words per day, “even if it only took an hour.” He is well-known for his “Chaos Walking” trilogy: “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” “The Ask and the Answer” and “Monsters of Men.” In his new novel, “More Than This” (Candlewick), a boy drowns but then wakes, seemingly still alive and not knowing where he is or how he got there.
