A mechanical engineer by degree, Suzanne Slade is the award-winning author of more than 100 hundred books, including many science titles. During her engineering career, Slade worked at McDonnell Douglas Space Systems on Delta rockets, Titan rockets and other spacecraft. As part of her research for “Countdown: 2979 Days to the Moon” (Peachtree), Slade interviewed one of the 12 astronauts who have walked on the moon, Alan Bean, and corresponded with Walter Cunningham, an Apollo 7 astronaut.
