Arnold Rampersad is the author of several acclaimed biographies, including a two-volume work titled The Life of Langston Hughes (1986, 1988), Jackie Robinson (1997), and Ralph Ellison: A Biography (Knopf, 2007). He also collaborated with tennis great Arthur Ashe on his memoir, Days of Grace (1993). He has written for The New York Times Book Review, The New Republic, and The Washington Post. An elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, he also received a MacArthur Foundation fellowship. He lives in Stanford, California, where he is Sara Hart Kimball Professor in the Humanities at Stanford University.
