Historian and screenwriter Geoffrey C. Ward is the author of 14 books, including Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson (2004) and co-author, with Ken Burns, of The War: An Intimate History, 1941-1945 (Knopf, 2007). He has also written or co-written many documentary films, including The Civil War, Baseball, and Jazz. The recipient of the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Francis Parkman Prize, he lives in New York City.
