Eric Gansworth was raised at the Tuscarora Nation and is an enrolled member of the Onondaga Nation. He is an associate professor of English at Canisius College in Buffalo, where he created a course in contemporary Native American literature. His novels include “Indian Summers,” “Smoke Dancing” and “Mending Skins,” which Junot Diaz called “a small masterpiece.” Gansworth’s new novel is for young adults. “If I Ever Get Out of Here” (Levine/Scholastic) is about the friendship of a white boy and a Native American.
