BIBCO/CONSER MARC Record Sets

The aggregator list below is intended to help catalogers discover sources of MARC cataloging copy for individual titles in online databases or from vendors. Record sets may be available from a variety of sources, such as the OCLC WorldCat Collection sets, aggregators, non-aggregator vendors such as Serial Solutions,or even OPACS, where a particular library may have cataloged a record set in RLIN or OCLC and the titles can be downloaded individually, through FTP or through Z39.50.

In addition, record sets are often available from more than one source and in more than one format. Project Muse records, for example, may be obtained from Serials Solutions or may be found in the utilities cataloged by Johns Hopkins and other libraries. Serials Solutions records contain Project Muse holdings in the 856 field but the cataloging copy is based on the CONSER print record. Cataloging records created by individual libraries in the utilities may use the single record or multiple version approach.

It is our intention that this site be interactive so that PCC libraries can annotate the list to indicate that they have cataloged or created a record set. For example, URLs for Country profiles in the Economist Intelligence Unit database were added by UCSD and are available in MELVYL. Yale has cataloged Ingenta titles as separate records in RLIN. Serials Solutions provides bibliographic and holdings information for a large number of databases. In the chart, we have only listed lists of cataloged titles for those cases which did not have identified record sets. It is definitely not complete, but is intended to show what could be done. We hope that keeping this resource up to date becomes a collective effort on the part of all PCC libraries.

Separate Record--Cataloging records are for the electronic resource itself.

Single record (Print Record with URL)--Cataloging record contains information for all versions of the title on a single print record

OCLC WCS--OCLC WorldCat Collection Set (available now)

OCLC WCS*--OCLC WorldCat Collection Set (record set in process)

SS--Serials Solutions (Firm)

Roger--OPAC at the University of California, San Diego

Ongoing--The record set receives updates (adds/deletes) in its holdings or title list.

Type of URL--Identifies whether the URL is institution specific (IS) or is applicable to all users (U).

Format--The majority of records are serial (S) or monographic (M) in nature.
