The Colorado Subject Authority Funnel Project (begun fall, 2008) falls under the Library of Congress Cooperative Cataloging Program known as SACO (Subject Authority Cooperative Program). The goal of the project is to promote and facilitate the creation of subject authority records for all subjects relating to Colorado.

Because Colorado is a mountainous state, its geography provides many opportunities for new subject authority records. Colorado has an abundance of mountains, lakes, rivers, geological formations, mines, cliffs, dams, and ski resorts. Where literary warrant exists, libraries may propose new subject headings for these and many other geological features and other subjects.

This statewide funnel project provides a framework for proposing new subject headings and LC classification numbers required for cataloging works related to Colorado and to most other subjects, as well as needed revisions and additions to existing subject headings and classification numbers.

Anyone interested in becoming a participant in the funnel project should e-mail Jeffrey Beall, Coordinator for the Colorado Subject Authority Funnel Project, Auraria Library, University of Colorado Denver, or telephone at 303.556.5936.

Current participants include:

  • Douglas County Libraries (CoCr)
  • Johnson and Wales University, Denver Campus (CoDeJWU)
  • University of Colorado Denver (CoU-DA)
  • University of Colorado at Boulder (CoU)
  • University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (CoU-CS)
