Virginia Subject Funnel Project
Robert O. Ellett, Jr., Ph.D., M.S. in L.S.
Lecturer
School of Library and Information Science
San Jose State University
Background
The Virginia NACO Project was created in November 2002 with seven libraries (5 academic and 2 public libraries). Every two to three years onsite NACO training training is provided at the Joint Forces Staff College with the last half-day session devoted to SACO work on how to propose LC subject
headings and classification numbers. In August 2006, John Mitchell asked me to consolidate the project into the Virginia NACO/SACO Project. Currently there are 16 members including the Library of Virginia. Four of these members are active SACO participants proposing headings for dissertations
and theses. There is a Blackboard site as well as a discussion forum for the group.
