SUMMARY OF DECISIONS, EDITORIAL MEETING NUMBER 11

March 18, 2009

Present from PSD: J. Young, R. Goudreau

CLASSIFICATION

Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.

SUBJECT HEADINGS

Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:

H 1159, Military srvces

$x Operating room technicians

Other decisions:

Change of party affiliation

The idea of change and realignment of party affiliation is inherent in the already-existing heading Party affiliation. The proposal was not approved.

Oku (African people)

This proposal was made to remove the BT Ibibio (African people) from the heading Oku (African people). Because the Oku are a part of the larger ethnic group Ibibio, the change was not approved.

Reparations (International law)

The concept represented by this proposal is covered by the existing headings War reparations and Reparations for historical injustices. The proposal was not approved.

United States--Census, 1st, 1970

The subject heading treatment for works on censuses of the United States has been brought into alignment with that of censuses of other countries. The subdivision --Census, [date] should now be used under the heading United States; an ordinal number should no longer be included. A revised H 1366 will be included in the next update to the Subject Headings Manual, due to be published in the spring. Existing bibliographic records are in the process of being updated.
