conference call discussion.
AGENDA ITEM: Revised/reformatted JACKPHY Core record was
considered.
- Approved with minor changes (e.g. non-Roman changed to non-Latin, etc.)
- Final copy will be sent to J. Bryum for disribution to Exco and to D. Williamson
so that it can be put up on the PCC Home Page with the other core standards.

Chair of the AV TG concerning the rationale for the inclusion of 041 and
546 notes, and omissions of footnote for 240s.
- Standards should be approved and ready for dissemination by end of August
- Time was insufficient for consideration of recommendations: Committee will
discuss during next conference call.
AGENDA ITEM: Specific standards issues referred by BIBCO
libraries.
OVERALL RESPONSE. Answers to these issues might well be bundled together and
archived on the PCC Home page in some way that they will be easily accessible.
W. Cromwell will forward to Joan Schuitema the final appropriately formatted
copies of questions and answers and Joan will approach D. Williamson to work
out best way to make them available.
SPECIFIC QUESTIONS:
- Should BIBCO libraries research LC series tracing practice for authority
records.
The Committee agreed that BIBCO Libraries should not be required
to research LC tracing practice for series records.
- What is the correct Cataloging source code for old LC copy entered and/or
updated by a BIBCO library (Submitted by Columbia):
Upon return from ALA, B. Tillett will fax for committee members
evaluation copies of a chart prepared by Kay Guiles which may provide
answers to such questions easily and clearly. Copies will be forwarded
to Columbia catalogers.
- How much of LC call number need BIBCO libraries include in 050; e.g., if
a BIBCO library follows local practice in assigning subject or author cutters,
must they also include in the 050 the class number with the LC-preferred
subject or author cutter?
Willy will draft & circulate a response based on group consensus
that the call number needs to be complete through the author/subject
cutter.
(NOTE: This query has recently been expanded to Dewey numbers--must the
full Dewey expansion be used even if the BIBCO library does not use it?)
OTHER BUSINESS:
- Willy indicated that she would circulate for comment email copies of the
AACR2 Task Group Report upon returning from ALA. This report will be discussed
later via conference call.
- Willy agreed to distribute copies of the IFLA report on functional requirements
for the bibliographic record as soon as she received a copy. Again, committee
will plan a conference call to discuss report.
- Committee will plan to make greater use of conference calls; frequency
will be increased to twice monthly while the number of tasks remains so high.
