INITIAL LETTERS IN PINYIN FOR SHELFLISTERS

To shelflist Chinese material after pinyin conversion, it is helpful to know how the initial letters in pinyin were represented in Wade-Giles (pre-conversion) romanization. The initial letters in pinyin romanization were converted from the Wade-Giles letters listed below. If a letter does not appear on the chart below, it is the same in both pinyin and Wade-Giles (for example, syllables beginning with the letters f, l, m, n, w and y in Wade-Giles begin with those letters in pinyin also).
