Cataloger's Desktop 2004 Issue 4: Notice about CD version

The 2004 Issue 4 of the CD version of "Desktop" included an update to the underlying FolioViews software. While the installation program worked correctly, it turned out that there were a number of bugs in the FolioViews software, some of which had been updated by FAST (the developer of the software).

If you have received your 2004 Issue 4 disk and have NOT run the update program, it is best to avoid doing so. You can copy the infobases from the CD-ROM (in its \nfo\ directory) to your server's \Program Files\LC\Cataloging Tools\nfo\ directory. This will update the documentation without disturbing the underlying software.

You will also need to also need to adjust the CD version installation software by downloading a file from the CDS website

  • Right mouse click this link (http://www.loc.gov/cds/desktop/CHKUPD.INI) and Save Target As ... to your computer;
  • Copy the CHKUPD.INI file to the \Program files\LC\Cataloging Tools\ directory of the file server where Cataloger's Desktop is installed. For those who have stand-alone installations, this will be at c:\Program Files\LC\Cataloging Tools\ . For those with network installations, this will be on your network file server.
