What Program Item (Icon) is Installed with Cataloger's Desktop
The Cataloger's Desktop installation program places only one program item
(icon) on your computer's desktop. This icon opens Cataloger's Desktop
with a user customizable menu. Those who do not wish to customize their menu are not effected
by this change. Those who do wish to customize their menu will be able to do so by accessing
the Click here for your Customized Infobase List
button on the opening screen and following the instructions at the bottom of the list.
Note: The customizable list does not currently work
properly in Cataloger's Desktop. This problem has been reported to NextPage, and they
have acknowledged that this is a bug in the software. They project that it
will be fixed at some point in the future. CDS will update subscribers as we learn more
about NextPage's plans.
Network Access to your License Collection File
Subscribers to Cataloger's Desktop who are using these
publications on a network (or LAN) must have full file management access to the
\Lcf directory on the network
server. This directory includes the License.lcf
file that monitors the access to Desktop throughout the LAN.
In the course of utilizing rights managed infobases (such as AACR2 or LCRI),
the
Folio Rights Management software creates a number of temporary files. These files are all
named License. but will have a number
of
extensions other than lcf (such as
L01 or LCK). When a rights managed
infobase is closed, the workstation must have sufficient access to the LAN that the contents of
these temporary files are reintegrated into the License.lcf
file and the temporary files themselves are erased. If the workstation does not have this sort
of access to the network server, these publications may function erratically or not at all.
In a related issue, whenever infobases are accessed by workstations in a networked environment,
these infobases are date and time stamped. If workstations are prevented from updating this
date and time information, infobases may not open properly or at all. Please ensure that
workstations have sufficient access to the network server to update infobase date and time
information.
Size of Cataloger's Desktop infobases
How large are the Cataloger's Desktop infobases?
The infobases in Cataloger's Desktop amount to roughly
58 megabytes.
