Rights Management

Network users accessing data on Cataloger's Desktop must now obtain a license code from CDS for each product. These codes relate to the number of users allowed to use the products.

A Customer Services Representative (CSR) will be available to take your call.

The network administrator should be running the 'Rights Browser.' To run the browser, please follow the steps below:

  1. graphics/Rights Browser iconDouble-click on the 'Rights Browser' program rightsbr.exe in C:\Program Files\LC\Cataloging Tools.


    Note:
    You must have installed Cataloger's Desktop on a workstation first to be able to do this step. Be certain that you are running rightsbr.exe from a workstation.

  2. Click on the OPEN button on the toolbar, change to the \lcf subdirectory, or the \lcf subdirectory in your network installation directory.
  3. Pull down File Login from the Rights Browser menu bar.
  4. screen shot: Rights Browser loginYou will be greeted with a Login dialog box. Make sure that the Access Level box reads Administrator. Type in the password Whitbread 98 and click the OK button. Note: The password is case sensitive, so the letter W must be capitalized, and there must be a space before 98.
  5. screen shot: receive telephone updateClick on the Cataloger's Desktop license for Cataloger's Desktop and pull down License Send Telephone update from the menu bar. The CSR will ask you (the subscriber) to click on the Cataloger's Desktop license and pull down License Receive Telephone update from the menu bar. Note: It is important that both you and the CSR are updating the same licenses. No other license should be changed.
  6. graphics/INtroduction Both you and the CSR will now have a dialog box in front of you titled Introduction. Both you and the CSR should click the Next button.
  7. screen shot: Send Challenge dialog You (the subscriber) will now have a Step 1: Send Challenge dialog in front of you. Please read the 24-digit challenge number to the CSR. You (the subscriber) are given phonetic alphabet words (such as 'Alpha' for the letter 'A') for each letter and should use those words to read the code to the CSR. The CSR will read the challenge number back to you (the subscriber). If the codes agree, then click on the Next button.

    International Subscribers
    : When you reach this step, you will send your 24-digit Challenge Number via phone, fax, or E-mail and leave your system running and available until steps 6) and 7) are completed.

  8. As the CSR reads the 24-digit response number to you (the customer), you should type it into the dialog box displayed (which should be the "Step 2: Receive Response" dialog).

    Note: Phonetic alphabet words are used for each letter. The CSR will use those words to read the code to you, you will be asked to read the Challenge Number back to the Customer Services Rep. If the codes agree, you (the customer) will be asked to click on the Next button.

    International subscribers may choose to have the 24-digit response sent via fax or E-mail and will have to enter that information and click on the Next button.

  9. You (the subscriber) will now have a screen labeled Conclusion that outlines what the new rights attached to the license are. Click the Finish button. If you encounter any problems at this point, please contact the Cataloging Distribution Service and repeat the steps above.
